Sixty miles south of Cancun at the heart of the RIviera Maya lies the laid back and​ friendly community of Akumal, fIve neighborhoods strung along the shores of Yalku Lagoon, Half Moon Bay, Akumal Bay and Aventuras Akumal Beach. Immersed in its environment between the sea with its reef, the mangove and the forest, it is totally unlike the insulated all-inclusive resorts scattered like beached cruise ships on Caribbean shores.

Akumal is the safest community on the Caribbean Coast and one of the safest towns in all Mexico. Two years ago our homeowner's association, the Asociacion de Vecinos de Akumal Norte, obtained the first contingent of the new National Guards on the Riviera Maya from the President of Mexico. They have been here ever since, providing security for the whole neighboring area.  

When you swim in Akumal Bay with giant sea turtles, they are in their natural habitat. They dig their nests on our beaches, and in season their hatchlings race over the sands to the sea. Here you can snorkel in the bays and observe stingrays gliding gracefully over reef and sand or swim through the underwater broken rock landscape of Yalku Lagoon among schools of multi-colored tropical fish. 

Akumal began as a divers' resort and still is a divers' paradise, with daily opportunities to explore nearby reefs or cenotes that lead into vast systems of water-filled caves and underground rivers with their grotesquely beautiful formations of stalactites and stalagmites. 

Akumal is perfectly situated for trips to Mayan ruins at Tulum, Coba, Shel Ha, and Muyil; visits to Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve and numerous Eco Parks.  Make day trips to the colonial city of Valladolid; the Mayan sites of Ek Balam or Chichen Itza; Isla Mujeres, Cozumel or the resort cities of Cancun and Playa del Carmen.  Golf at world class courses like nearby Riviera Maya Golf Club or at golf courses further north along the coast.  Or you can just laze in the sun on one of our white coral sand beaches.
